Nelson Animal Hospital is family-owned and operated and we strive to extend our family philosophy to include our patients and their families as well. Please feel free to browse below for bios of some of our staff here at Nelson.
Dr. Sharon Quinn
Dr. Sharon Quinn has been the owner and head veterinarian at Nelson Animal Hospital since October of 2006. She graduated from the DVM program at the University of Guelph in 2004 and also holds an honours B.Sc. in Wildlife Biology from the University of Guelph. Following graduation, Dr. Quinn was employed full-time at a busy small animal and exotics practice here in Burlington. When the opportunity presented itself, she made the jump into practice ownership.
Dr. Quinn is a member of the Ontario Veterinary Medical Association and the College of Veterinarians of Ontario. She attends conferences and lectures on a regular basis to keep updated with the most current developments in the field of veterinary medicine.
Dr. Quinn's practice philosophy involves maintaining the highest standard of veterinary medical care while honouring the human-animal bond and fostering communication in a warm and friendly environment. She deeply values the relationships formed with our client families and patients and absolutely loves caring for senior pets!
In her spare time, she helps to run an international singing competition, and enjoys travelling to different places around the world with the singers from Canada.
Dr. Quinn resides with her four children, Michael, Preston, Peyton and Rowan. In addition to the permanent clinic residents and adoptable pets you will meet on our site, the Quinn family includes a 2 year old Border terrier named Renly, and two cats, Jace and Hannah.
Dr. Suzanne Gallant
Dr. Suzanne Gallant graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 2015 and was awarded the Molly Carrington (OVC ’78) Memorial Prize for demonstrating proficiency in small animal medicine and a high standard of care and compassion for her patients during her final year clinical rotations. Prior to these studies, she obtained her Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in Biology from Queen’s University in 2007.
In the years since her graduation, Dr. Gallant has worked with a variety of different animal species at small animal and exotics practices in Burlington and Oakville. She has developed a special interest in preventative medicine, pain management and surgery.
Dr. Gallant is very excited to be joining the Nelson Animal Hospital team and looks forward to meeting you and family pets. When not working, you will likely find her running around on the ultimate frisbee field or relaxing up at the family cottage with her husband, Andrew, and young son, Ted.
Dr. Dianne Pillitteri
Dr. Dianne Pillitteri graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College at the University of Guelph in 2014, achieving her childhood dream of becoming a veterinarian. Prior to these studies, she obtained her Bachelor of Science (Honours) undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences. Her interests in veterinary medicine include internal medicine, dermatology and nutrition. She is enjoying getting to know the amazing pets and families at Nelson Animal Hospital.
Outside of work Dr. Pillitteri spends time with family and friends. She enjoys baking and spending time outdoors. Together with her husband Adam, their home is shared with two spoiled cats, Lilo and Chip and their golden retriever, Gryph!
Kelly is an honours B.Sc. graduate from McMaster University. She began at Nelson Animal Hospital as our afternoon/evening receptionist in 2007 and is now a full-time veterinary assistant. She loves getting to know the patients and especially enjoys learning new things and assisting the veterinarians in their work. Over the years, Kelly has gained a great deal of valuable experience and is fascinated with the field of animal science and biology. Her love of animals extends into her personal life as well, being the lucky owner of Meredith and Derek, two curious yet adorable little ferrets. She also enjoys dog sitting and doing creative craft activities in her spare time.
Ellie is our new part-time Veterinary Assistant here at Nelson Animal Hospital. Ellie is an honours graduate from Mohawk College's advertising program in 2013. After working in the industry for a few years as a graphic designer and copywriter, she decided it was time for a change. She went back to her hospitality roots and spent a few years bartending and serving at some local restaurants before making her way to Nelson. Due to her background in customer service and her love for animals, Dr. Quinn felt that she would be a perfect fit for our Nelson family as a Veterinary Assistant. When she's not at work, Ellie loves going on adventures with her boyfriend Matt and spending time with their dog Brady and cat Roger. She also loves being on-stage performing in various local musical theatre productions, singing karaoke, or playing acoustic shows.
