Dr. Sharon Quinn

Dr. Sharon Quinn has been the owner and head veterinarian at Nelson Animal Hospital since October of 2006. She graduated from the DVM program at the University of Guelph in 2004 and also holds an honours B.Sc. in Wildlife Biology from the University of Guelph. Following graduation, Dr. Quinn was employed full-time at a busy small animal and exotics practice here in Burlington. When the opportunity presented itself, she made the jump into practice ownership.

Dr. Quinn is a member of the Ontario Veterinary Medical Association and the College of Veterinarians of Ontario. She attends conferences and lectures on a regular basis to keep updated with the most current developments in the field of veterinary medicine.

Dr. Quinn's practice philosophy involves maintaining the highest standard of veterinary medical care while honouring the human-animal bond and fostering communication in a warm and friendly environment. She deeply values the relationships formed with our client families and patients and absolutely loves caring for senior pets!

In her spare time, she helps to run an international singing competition, and enjoys travelling to different places around the world with the singers from Canada.

Dr. Quinn resides with her four children, Michael, Preston, Peyton and Rowan. In addition to the permanent clinic residents and adoptable pets you will meet on our site, the Quinn family includes a 2 year old Border terrier named Renly, and two cats, Jace and Hannah.

Dr. Beth MacMillan

Dr. Beth MacMillan received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the Ontario Veterinary College at the University of Guelph. She knew right from childhood that being a veterinarian was her dream. Prior to these studies, she obtained her Bachelor of Science Honours degree in Molecular Biology and Genetics at Queens University. Following this, she pursued her interest in Pathology and Immunology by obtaining a Masters of Science in this field at the University of Guelph.

Prior to her time in veterinary school, Beth spent 8 months in Africa working in various countries to serve animals in need. Her favourite experience was in South Africa rehabilitating African penguins and other sea birds including pelicans. This experience further confirmed her desire to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. Her special interests in the field include neurology, surgery and emergency medicine.

Outside of work, Beth enjoys cottaging, playing various sports, cooking and drawing. She also enjoys spending time with her kitty Benny (featured) and her husband Rich

Dr. Adriana Olijnyk

Dr. Adriana Olijnyk is a veterinary graduate of The Royal Veterinary College in London, England. Prior to this, she attended Queen’s University to obtain an honours B.Sc in Biology, and a M.Sc in Biology, studying microscopic freshwater critters and their ecosystems.

Her love for animals spans all species, from invertebrates to rhinos. Before becoming a veterinarian, she completed several zoo animal internships around the Unites States, which allowed her to gain experience with small exotic mammals, monkeys, raptors, reptiles, lions, tigers, and bears!

Aside from having an affinity for exotic animals and pocket pets, she is also interested in internal medicine and analgesia, and palliative care for her senior patients. Ensuring her patients are pain-free and comfortable in their golden years is her top priority.

As a Toronto native, Adriana enjoys spending a lot of her time in the city and is very happy to be home after spending 5 years in England (and drinking double-doubles instead of tea!). When she’s not cuddling the adorable patients at Nelson, she loves cooking, trying out new restaurants, and competing in pub-trivia nights with her Toronto quiz team.

Kaitlyn Wickens, RVT

Registered Veterinary Technician

Kaitlyn graduated from Seneca College, King Campus in 2013. After graduation she traveled to South Africa to help provide under priviledged townships with parasite control, vaccines and spay and neuter services. She then started here as a volunteer while working her summer job at a local zoo. She always knew she had a huge love for helping animals and it was a lifelong goal to become a veterinary technician. Kaitlyn has a special spot in her heart for exotic animals and pocket pets. She has a 14 lb. Flemish Giant rabbit named Dixie. Outside of work you can find her enjoying the outdoors, practicing yoga or shopping!

Elenie Ketsetzis

Veterinary Assistant/Client Care Specialist

Ellie is our part-time Veterinary Assistant here at Nelson Animal Hospital. Ellie is an honours graduate from Mohawk College's advertising program in 2013. After working in the industry for a few years as a graphic designer and copywriter, she decided it was time for a change. She went back to her hospitality roots and spent a few years bartending and serving at some local restaurants before making her way to Nelson. Due to her background in customer service and her love for animals, Dr. Quinn felt that she would be a perfect fit for our Nelson family as a Veterinary Assistant. When she's not at work, Ellie loves going on adventures with her boyfriend Matt and spending time with their dog Brady and cat Roger. She also loves being on-stage performing in various local musical theatre productions, singing karaoke, or playing acoustic shows.
